The subtitle is the whole argument. The language got cleaner. The paperwork got more polite. The hand doing the sorting never moved.

Volume One went back to who we were before anyone showed up to rename us. Volume Two follows that same hand forward, through the laws that replaced the chains, the courts that were built to referee and got captured instead, the hiring desks, the headlines, the cameras. It shows up in payroll. It shows up in performance reviews. It shows up in who gets the benefit of the doubt at 4:45 on a Friday.

Here is the part that matters most. The pattern holds because it keeps us arguing with each other instead of reading the same page at the same time. History in these pages works like a mirror, and there is room in front of it for everybody, including the people who were taught that none of this touches them. It touches all of us. That is the point.
